What we aim to achieve.

Dexter's Light

Dexter's Light now wants to raise funds for a sensory room so that children can learn key skills through interaction with light, texture and sound.

Equipment will be purchased by Dexter's Light and loaned short or long term to children's centres, play schools, nurseries and other local settings.

It will be available to all groups including able-bodied and disabled children. It will be available to all children no matter what ethnic or religious background they come from.

Each sensory room costs £15,000 to purchase, service and maintain. Dexter's Light is run entirely on donations. All of the staff and fundraisers do it for the little boy below.

Every penny donated to Dexter's Light goes directly to fund the equipment we want to buy for the children's groups.

Supporting the Lullaby Trust

Dexter's light supports the work carried out by the Lullaby Trust (Registered Charity No. 262191)

Every year, here in the UK, over 600 babies - the majority of whom appear to be perfectly healthy - will die suddenly and unexpectedly. Although some of these can be explained after investigation, many cannot. All are individual tragedies.

The Lullaby Trust is working hard on four critical fronts to tackle this issue:

  1. They aim to ensure that all parents, healthcare professionals, and others in close contact with families are aware of the most up-to-date, evidence-based advice on safer sleep for babies, and how to reduce the risk factors that can lead to an unexpected death.
  2. The Lullaby Trust helps families who experience the sudden and shocking loss of a baby, providing immediate, practical support in the form of advice and guidance. We connect them with others who have experienced a similar bereavement. In these ways we work to ensure that families are fully supported during what is a devastating and isolating experience.
  3. Working with the NHS they run a national health-visitor led service for bereaved parents, Care of Next Infant (CONI) programme, which supports families before and after the birth of their new baby. They also fund the specialist monitoring equipment for CONI babies which provides much-needed reassurance for their anxious parents.
  4. The Lullaby Trust has funded cutting-edge research for over 40 years, making a major contribution to reducing sudden infant death by 70%. To date they have invested  11 million in SIDS research and continue to support new research.

The Lullaby Trust also campaign tirelessly, lobbying government to keep sudden infant death on the public health agenda and working in a coordinated way to build public awareness and knowledge.

Join us to help them in the fight to do what it takes to stop babies dying suddenly and unexpectedly.
